How to Cut Your Custom Metal Sign?

Stop searching for the perfect store sign. In aluminum, steel, or stainless steel, easily create your custom metal sign. A simple and fun way to showcase your business or association. Discover right now how to cut your custom metal sign.

You probably remember our article on personalizing your house number? Well, this time, we're inviting you to create a hanging sign. A lovely metal sign like you might see in front of some stores. It's original and very decorative. Plus, with online custom cutting, you can design just about anything you like, so why wait?

Which metal for my sign?

A sign is usually placed outdoors and must withstand the elements. You need to use a material that doesn't rust or apply an anti-corrosion paint or treatment.

A stainless steel or aluminum sign
Just like with the house number, I recommend a stainless steel sign. 316L stainless steel is the most resistant to aggressive or humid environments. You can choose a thickness between 2 and 5 mm. If you want something thicker, you can opt for 304L stainless steel, available up to 10 mm thick.
Aluminum also withstands the weather and UV rays. But lighter than stainless steel, it may be more susceptible to wind depending on your mounting system and the size of the plate.

Finally, corten steel is perfect for creating a sign that stands out from classic wrought iron signs. You need to let it rust naturally so it can mature (like a good wine). It's only available with a thickness of 1.5 mm. If you want a thicker steel sign, you can use pickled and oiled steel to paint.

How to cut my custom metal sign?

To cut your logo or a highly customized shape, I recommend using our online DXF file cutting platform. It allows you to create custom, complex shapes.
A DXF file is a blueprint file that you can obtain using drawing software like LibreCAD. If you don't have your visual in this format, you can convert your image to DXF by following our tutorial. Once the DXF file is created, you can go to our website's John Steel DXF page.

How to create a custom-made sign with the configurator?

If you don't have a DXF file and want to make standard cuts, you can still create your custom sign. Our online configurator lets you set up your cut from predefined shapes.

In just a few clicks, you can design your metal sign and place an order.

Choose the metal you want for your sign (stainless steel, aluminum, or steel)
Select the grade and thickness of the sheet
Choose the shape of your custom sign and enter the dimensions in millimeters
