Tree of Life with Roots Metal Wall Art, Made to Measure

Tree of life with roots: one continuous design, from leaves to roots

Our tree of life with roots brings the whole tree into view: a full canopy, a sturdy trunk and spreading roots, all held within a fine circle. Laser cut from a single metal sheet, it suits a living room wall, entrance, façade or garden fence. You choose the material, thickness and diameter, and we cut it to order to fit your wall. Choosing which wall may take a little longer.

Why choose a tree of life with roots?

In this design, the roots take up almost as much space as the branches. A tree of life with deep roots is a reminder that everything which grows has a starting point:

  • the roots suggest origins, family and a sense of belonging;
  • the trunk represents strength and the journey through life;
  • the leaves symbolise growth and the generations to come.

The surrounding circle represents unity and the cycle of life. This tree of life wall art connects the past with the future through a single, continuous shape. If you prefer a broader border and a more open canopy, explore our tree of life metal wall art with a wider ring.

Brushed stainless steel, anodised aluminium and other material choices

Your tree of life with roots is supplied in its original metal finish, without paint or welding, so the material itself sets the look:

  • Brushed stainless steel (1 to 4 mm): a contemporary satin finish that does not rust, suitable indoors and outdoors. Explore our brushed stainless steel materials.
  • Anodised aluminium (1.5 to 2 mm): light, smooth to the touch and easy to mount, making it suitable for a larger piece.
  • Galvanised steel (1 to 3 mm): protected by a zinc layer, with an industrial metallic grey finish and resistance to the weather.
  • Mild steel (2 to 6 mm): a dark industrial look for dry interiors. For this design, the maximum thickness is 6 mm. Unprotected mild steel rusts, so apply wax or clear varnish when it arrives.
  • Corten steel (1.5 mm): for outdoor use only. Supplied without rust, it develops an orange-brown patina outside that changes over time. Find out about how Corten weathering steel develops its patina.

Made to measure, with a diameter to suit your wall

The design stays the same while the size changes. Choose the outer diameter to the nearest millimetre, from 200 to 1,480 mm. Your tree of life with roots is scaled proportionally, preserving its circular outline and the relationship between the canopy, trunk and roots.

The minimum diameter depends on thickness, keeping the fine leaf stems and root tips rigid:

  • For 1 mm thickness in stainless or galvanised steel, choose from 200 to 800 mm.
  • For 1.5 mm thickness, the minimum diameter is 300 mm.
  • For 2 mm thickness, the minimum diameter is 400 mm.
  • For 3 mm thickness, the minimum diameter is 600 mm.
  • For 4 mm thickness, the minimum diameter is 800 mm.
  • For mild steel at 5 mm thickness. Choose a diameter from 1,000 mm.
  • For mild steel at 6 mm thickness. Choose a diameter from 1,200 mm.

Allow a diameter of 400 to 600 mm above a console table or headboard. From 800 to 1,480 mm, the piece becomes a focal point on a large wall or façade. If you need an oval or an adapted design, request a quote for your custom design.

Indoor and outdoor metal wall art

Indoors, a tree of life with roots adds warmth to a living room, bedroom, office or entrance. Choose brushed stainless steel, anodised aluminium, galvanised steel or protected mild steel for these spaces, to keep marks off your walls.

Outside, position it on a façade, terrace wall or fence alongside our custom metal garden decorations. Stainless steel, galvanised steel and anodised aluminium suit outdoor walls. Corten steel belongs outdoors only: alternating wet and dry conditions allow its protective patina to develop. We reserve it for outdoor use because runoff from that patina can stain the surface below.

A gift that celebrates family roots

A metal tree can be passed down through the family. With its clearly visible roots, this design suggests family ties and continuity, making it a symbolic gift for a wedding, a new baby, a housewarming or a wedding anniversary. Choose the material to suit the wall where it will hang.

Fixing and care

Your tree of life with roots arrives as one piece, ready to mount, without screws or other mounting hardware. Depending on the surface, you can:

  • hang the circle on two discreet hooks or screw heads;
  • bond it onto spacers to stand it away from the wall and cast a shadow;
  • bond it flat with a high-strength grab adhesive for concealed mounting.

A soft cloth is enough for stainless steel, aluminium and galvanised steel. Maintain mild steel with wax or clear varnish. Corten steel protects itself through its patina; while this develops, avoid positioning it above pale render or paving where runoff could leave marks.

Made in France, laser cut in Colmar

Every piece is cut to order in our Colmar workshop. Precision laser cutting follows each leaf and fine root, leaving clean edges. Browse our made to measure metal wall decorations for other designs.

  • Made to measure: choose your diameter to the nearest millimetre.
  • One continuous piece: no added parts, welding or assembly.
  • Original metal finish: supplied without paint to show the material itself.

Frequently asked questions about the tree of life with roots

What size tree of life with roots should I choose?

Allow 400 to 600 mm above a console, sofa or headboard; from 800 to 1,480 mm suits large walls or façades. Overall diameters range from 200 to 1,480 mm, adjustable by the millimetre. Minimum diameters by thickness are: 1 mm, from 200 to 800 mm; 1.5 mm, from 300 mm; 2 mm, from 400 mm; 3 mm, from 600 mm; 4 mm, from 800 mm; 5 mm, from 1,000 mm; 6 mm, from 1,200 mm.

Can a tree of life with roots go outdoors?

Yes. Brushed stainless steel does not rust, galvanised steel has a protective zinc layer, and Corten steel develops its own protective patina, making these suitable outdoor choices. Anodised aluminium also suits outdoor use and remains very light. Avoid unprotected mild steel outside because it rusts.

How do brushed stainless steel, galvanised steel and anodised aluminium differ?

Brushed stainless steel (1 to 4 mm) has a satin finish and does not rust. Galvanised steel (1 to 3 mm) is zinc-protected with an industrial grey finish. Anodised aluminium (1.5 to 2 mm) is the lightest choice and smooth to the touch. Mild steel (2 to 6 mm for this design) has an industrial look but rusts without protection. All are laser cut to your dimensions.

How do I mount a tree of life with roots?

It comes without screws or other mounting hardware. Hang the circle on two discreet hooks or screw heads, bond it onto spacers to create a shadow behind the design, or bond it flat using a high-strength grab adhesive. For an outdoor wall, choose stainless steel mounting hardware.

Is the tree of life with roots supplied with paint?

No. It comes without paint or varnish to preserve the metal's own appearance: satin stainless steel, zinc-grey galvanised steel, matt anodised aluminium, dark grey mild steel, or orange-brown Corten steel once its patina develops. Each piece is laser cut in our Colmar workshop and made in France.

Is Corten steel unsuitable for indoor tree of life wall art?

Yes, it is for outdoor use only. Corten steel can stain and needs alternating rain and drying to develop its patina, so it is for outdoor use only. For indoor walls, choose brushed stainless steel, anodised aluminium, galvanised steel or protected mild steel to retain the metal look without marking your walls.

Can I order this tree of life in another shape?

You choose the size in the configurator while the design keeps its proportions. For a different shape or an adapted design, request a quote through our custom quote page and include your idea or DXF file. We also offer another metal tree of life design with a wider circle.

What do the roots of the tree of life symbolise?

The roots suggest origins, family and belonging: what nourishes the tree and keeps it standing. The trunk represents strength and the journey through life, while the leaves suggest growth and future generations. Within its circle, the tree also represents unity and the cycle of life.
