In the configurator, depending on the shape you choose, you'll need to enter several values for your custom part. These dimensions must always be entered in millimetres.

Example : 10 millimetres = 1 centimetre (1 cm = 10 mm), and 1000 millimetres = 1 metre (1 m = 1000 mm).

In the John Steel configurator, you can create custom-sized cuts and holes, such as :

  • round / circle cuts

  • rectangle or square cuts

  • triangle cuts

  • half-circle cuts

You can also design various types of notches :

Understanding the cost of your custom part using our configurator is simple. Several key factors determine the final price of your made-to-measure metal or wood piece:

  • Raw material cost: The type of material you choose directly affects the price. Each material has its own rate depending on its properties and availability.

  • Material thickness: The thickness you choose impacts the price. Thicker materials require more resources and production time, which is reflected in the cost.

Metal

The PVC protective film applied to some metal sheets serves two main purposes:

  • It helps preserve the surface and prevents scratches

  • It indicates the brushing direction on finishes like stainless steel

Depending on the material, we offer different cutting thicknesses :

  • From 1 to 20 mm for steels

  • From 1 to 10 mm for stainless steels

  • From 1 to 10 mm for aluminium

We cut sheet metal in the following formats :

  • Standard sheets : 2990 mm x 1490 mm

  • Perforated aluminium, magnetic stainless steel : 1990 mm x 990 mm

  • Leather-finish stainless steel, corten steel : 1480 mm x 2980 mm

Since standards vary from one country to another, the designations for the same metal may also differ.
That said, whether in France or Germany, everyone understands what 316L or 304L stainless steel means.

To help you, we’ve compiled a comparison table of designations used in the United States, Europe, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France.

This information is provided for reference only.

Nothing is lost, everything is transformed !

The metalworking industry was one of the first to organize its recycling circuit. All our offcuts are handled by an ISO 14001 certified scrap dealer who sends them to a factory where they are remelted into new raw material.

To reduce waste, we also optimize cutting files before production in order to get the most out of every metal sheet.

Finally, for urgent one-off productions, we use a library of offcuts that we keep on hand in our workshop.

Our Cutting Service

No, we do not currently offer an engraving service.

Yes, we offer a metal bending service, but it is only available under certain conditions.

You must first create an account on our JS Biz platform (John Steel Business), a space dedicated to professionals.

Our website offers a selection of standard metal shapes (square, rectangle, circle).

If you don't find the shape you need, you can easily draw it directly in our configurator.

You can also add shapes or text inside your part and round off the corners as you wish.

For more complex designs, you’ll need to upload a DXF file.

As we specialise in custom cutting of metal and wood, we do not currently offer any painting service.

There are several metal cutting methods :

  • laser

  • shearing

  • stamping

  • punching

  • oxy-fuel cutting

  • plasma cutting

  • water jet

With minimal setup time, no tooling, and direct use of digital files, laser cutting is currently the most flexible technology for metal cutting.

DXF

Converting an image to a DXF file is simple. Just follow these steps:

  • Choose a free online converter

  • Upload your image (JPEG, PNG) and convert it to DXF format

  • Then upload your file to our DXF upload platform

To create your DXF drawing, start by opening a CAD software of your choice (AutoCAD, LibreCAD, or Adobe Illustrator).

Then, set up your workspace and draw your part while following these guidelines:

  • Work at a 1:1 scale in millimetres (1 mm = 1 mm in real size)

  • Make sure your shape is closed, not just outlined with vectors

  • The width of your part should not be smaller than its thickness

  • If your part includes holes, their diameter must be greater than or equal to the thickness of the part
