How to clean a stainless steel kitchen splashback in 2 minutes flat ?
7 janvier 2025- 🧽 Why is it important to clean your stainless steel splashback ?
- 🧽 What should you use to clean your stainless steel splashback ?
- What's the best way to clean a stainless steel splashback?
- What products should I avoid using on stainless steel?
- What should you do if your kitchen splashback is scratched ?
When you’re a passionate cook like John, you don’t pay much attention to splashes and projectiles of all kinds. To protect your kitchen effectively, we always recommend installing a stainless steel splashback behind a worktop.
With John’s advice, preserve your splashback so that it retains its elegance and protection over time !
🧽 Why is it important to clean your stainless steel splashback ?
As with any kitchen element, you need to maintain your splashback on a regular basis so that it retains its effectiveness and appearance, as well as preventing the proliferation of bacteria and germs.
If maintenance is not carried out seriously, there are risks involved :
- Hygiene : A stainless steel splashback is often used to prepare your food, making it vulnerable to bacteria. Regular cleaning will eliminate these germs and ensure a more hygienic kitchen.
- Durability : The most important thing about stainless steel is its tough, durable surface. But without maintenance, it can lose its protection. Scratches and stains can damage the stainless steel surface if it is too exposed to knocks and impacts.
- Aesthetics : A clean stainless steel splashback is as important physically as it is visually. The cleaner it is, the more it will retain its elegant, modern look in your kitchen.
As you can see, regular cleaning of your stainless steel splashback is crucial to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment. What’s more, it’s quick and easy to clean !
🧽 What should you use to clean your stainless steel splashback ?
Step 1: Preparing your battle plan
Before getting down to business, it’s time to take a quick look around. The advantage of this tip is that you don’t need much, and you’ll usually have all the equipment you need in your wardrobe or cupboard :
- A container for rubbing alcohol
- A microfibre cloth
- Socks or tights
Step 2: Cleaning your kitchen splashback
Depending on your kitchen, I advise you to make room to avoid drips on your kitchen utensils. Once you’ve cleared the workspace, it’s time to draw out the rubbing alcohol:
- Pour a little spirit into your container: Enough to soak the sticky.
- Soak the sticky: But don’t be too heavy-handed
- In the same direction as you brush the stainless steel: Use regular strokes to apply the cleaning spirit and use all the fibres of the sticky.
- When you see that the stains, fingerprints or splashes have disappeared, leave the cleaning alcohol to work for a while. This way, even the most stubborn stains can be removed.
- For the grand finale, use the microfibre cloth. Always brush in the same direction, using the cloth to remove the most stubborn dirt!
Step 3 (Optional): Repeat if necessary
If your grease stains are stubborn, don’t hesitate to do a second pass to restore the shine to your kitchen splashback!
What's the best way to clean a stainless steel splashback?
A little 95% concentrated methylated spirits, a microfibre cloth to gently clean your made-to-measure credenza and a little elbow grease, and in just a few minutes you’ll have a gleaming stainless steel (or 304L stainless steel) credenza!
If you’re a fan of household products, you’ll be disappointed. My tip is to use household spirit. Sold in many supermarkets and DIY shops, this product is an excellent disinfectant, but above all it’s a great cleaning partner.
It can be used to clean windows, mirrors or taps, and is also highly effective on stainless steel (or stainless steel) credenzas.
What products should I avoid using on stainless steel?
Stainless steel, prized for its robustness and aesthetic appeal, is an essential part of our interiors. But be careful when it comes to maintenance!
For example, avoid bleach and chlorine derivatives: they risk tarnishing and corroding your beautiful stainless steel.
What should you do if your kitchen splashback is scratched ?
There are a few tricks that suggest you use a slightly abrasive surface to clean a stainless steel splashback. To tell you the truth, stainless steel doesn’t like abrasive surfaces at all. So sponge green, steel wool and other torturous utensils should be banned from your routine ^^.
If in your case it’s already too late, there’s a little tutorial to help you reduce the scratches on your stainless steel :
